I worked at
Hamptons when I lived and went to college in Los Angeles from 1985 - 1990. As this link suggests, it was owned by Paul Newman.
In fact, the restaurant served
Paul Newman's French Dressing before
Newman's Own came into being.
The truth of the matter was, the owners were Ron and Ann Buck and Paul Newman and Joann Newman were very good friends of Ron and Ann's who helped them develop the recipes for the restaurant.
Apparently, because of the success of the recipes at Hamtpon's -
Newman's Own, Inc came into being.
Paul Newman did drawings and his art hung in Hamptons. One of his pieces was titled: The cat regards his dinner.
