THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!! Quite right. The sky, as we know it, might very well be falling. It's gonna land on you city folks first if it does. Some things do not have historical precedents, this may be one of them. What say you Kap17? Things back to "normal" end of Qtr3, 2009? Or SHTF Scenario sometime next year?

I am back to considering defensive strategies on a personal basis, which could begin with purchasing a defensive firearm... no kidding. Cool. But you may have to wait a bit. I have been in the stores of 3 purveyors of fine arms (well, practical and reliable, anyway:-)) and their inventory was from 1/3 to 2/3 depleted. It was noticable enough to where I asked one of the if they were going out of business. No Way! Sales have been brisk. It is more because of the crew that just crawled back into power in Washington than because of the economic situation. But, if you are prepping for uncertain times, I advise stocking up on a couple of cases of condensed milk and a few jumbo boxes of powerered milk, as well. Your neighbors or others that you may meet may not be as prepared, so the milk product could go a long way in helping them out if they have young'ns of infant to small child size. The gun is insurance that will hopefully go unused. The milk is what we are about.;-) Yours, Issodhos

... Also informative reading- but off topic, how a financial coup d'Etat unfolds. WOW! Every time I think I learn what the Bad Guys are doing, there's another layer of even more sinister stuff just below. Thanks for the link... I had to read it twice to realize how twisted the mechanisms of the bankers/brokers. Also... in the blogs below the article, was this quote: “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.” –President Thomas Jefferson, 1802, letter to Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin

The subject of deflation has drifted off the national scene for the moment. Here is a video interview (April 6), with Nouriel Roubini, the one person who has been ahead of events over the past 8 years. It isn't definitive, and there are no world shaking predictions, but I think it may be worthwhile as an overview... a perspective of world events that may influence the economic recovery. It doesn't deal as much with deflation per se, but more with the possible interactions with the world economy. I see at this as framework to measure actual progress. After all, as we look ahead to our own personal finances, it is well to have an idea as to how fast recovery will occur, and whether it may be in 2010, 2013 or even later. Interview On the subject of deflation. I must confess that I am surprised that there has been little evidence of any serious drop in prices thus far. History seem to show that deflation follows behind increasing unemployment, but the most obvious measures... food and necessities, have shown few signs of pricing stress.
