I've been watching the trailers for this new show and wondered if it could compare to the old one. I never saw the original but the new stuff looks a tad cheap. Is this series worth redoing? I really want to know. Much of the stuff that is on prime time in pure crap. I met Mr. Zimbalist back in the 60s at several political fund raisers, but could not mention his television work. I remembered his father as being a first class violinist.

Well, the new series stars Scott Caan, James Caan's son. Scott Caan is total eye-candy. Therefore, it matters not, to me, whether the show has substance or not. Just give me a good-looking man to look at for an hour, and I'm good.

Efrem Zimbalist Jr. was the lead in "77 Sunset Strip." Who could ever forget Ed "Kookie" Burns.

Sandy,
My wife watches it without fail. Loves it. I watched a couple of episodes. Sadly, Mr. Caan the younger has a talent for acting that, compared with his father's is comparable to the light generated by the moon compared to that generated by the sun. Lots of action, thin plots, acting only in the sense that acting is different from sitting around doing nothing.

I loved the original series when I was a kid. I do like the new series as well. I mean come on! Three gorgeous men, a woman who kicks serious ass and beautiful scenery what is not to like? I like also that they do the homage to the original for the opening sequence. The show itself has a bit of cheese, but overall it's pretty good.

Was there ever an American TV series that was worth doing in the first place?

Oddly enough some of America's best written shows originated in England. That said I can think of some great American shows. MASH, All in the family, Mary Tyler Moore (one of my favorites), Seinfeld to name a few. Today I think Law and Order SVU continues to bring to light some good issues, if not a bit disturbing. Personally though I watch a great deal of British shows and now they even have a Law and Order UK. Granted you could make the argument that American TV is brainless drivel but every now and then something really good manages to creep through.

I wouldn't mind seeing a well-done and well-written version of All in the Family set in the world of the Tea Party, Joe the Plumber, and the Mitch and Tan Man Congressional laughfest.
