Congrats!

As a political scientist and historian, there will be much to sift through in the wreckage of this election. As a citizen, I need to grieve for awhile.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

I'm not sure this something any of us, even rporter, really wanted to be right about.

you are correct

while I never considered Sec Clinton as anything more than a journeyman politician, Mr Trump was everything but a good alternative.

On a personal level, he offended my sensibilities, but at the same time, policy positions would be more important. An unknown foreign policy scares me. A domestic policy based on voodoo economics scares me. No replacement for partial universal healthcare scares me. No details how to put 94M people to work scares me. etc etc. His lack of policy positions scares me but I will assume Republicans/conservatives will provide their agenda as the program he will follow for the most part, so in one sense there is a schedule to inspect.

On the whole, I did not see his "policies" as moving America forward.

True, but even Republicans can't move things that far back. Their support drops precipitously if they fudge up Social Security or Medicare and they know it.

ACA is also another hot potato: They have been playing at ending it for several years, but only because Democrats would not let them. If they end it abruptly (as Trump promised) 20 million plus people lose their coverage. They have to come up with some replacement, and if it really does what ACA did it will be essentially ACA! There's no way around it. If it doesn't do what ACA does, then people die and go bankrupt. Want to bet 1000 of those victims whose kids die won't load up their rifles and descend on Washington DC? Real health access costs money and it doesn't matter if the person writing the bill is a Democrat or a Republican.

So I suspect we will see creeping degradation of everything progressives like, instead of outright dictatorship, censorship, death, and destruction.

My son (born with five major heart defects) is going to lose the only health insurance he could ever get on his own, and there will be nothing out there to help him once Obamacare is repealed.
He is uninsurable. Aside from my wife's heroics, which were so significant that she let her own medical condition go unheeded, the only other thing that kept Daryl alive and lucky enough to receive three open heart surgeries was Hillary's S-CHIP program.
Then he was transferred to CHAMP-VA, which covered all his medical till age 18.
After that we got him a policy through the ACA, which will be going away now. He is in need of a heart transplant some time in the next few years. But that is not going to happen now.

Game over.

The ACA is gone, booting millions off insurance. Also, if you have preexisting conditions, you lose your insurance.

Dodd/Frank is gone, taking us back to the system that led to the Great Recession of 2008.

The SCOTUS swings right, with all his new Justices sworn to overthrow Roe V Wade, so a woman's right to control her body will be gone.

He said he would sign a bill that allows discrimination of LGBTQ. Of course, that will go straight to the Supreme Court pledged to overthrow Roe v Wade.

He intendes to gut all regulations.

He will freeze hiring of all government workers in order to drasticly cut their numbers.

His proposed EPA head is a climate change denier that will drill baby drill.

He had said it is morally acceptable to gut social security. The Republican Congress is not against that.

He can do enormous damage over four years.
