Instead of buying Greenland, Trump should buy a big chunk of Amazonia, and make it a Native People's preserve and International Park. It may be the only way to save it. We could draft the native population as forest rangers and arm them all with poison dart rifles.

The fires in Brazil are not like the California wildfires. Brazil's fires are deliberate, and there are thousands of them.

Sometimes life moves faster than what even the news sources know. When the US, put soybeans on the tariff board, the Chinese looked elsewhere. Mainly Brazil... But even Brazil could not satisfy the eventual demand, so the Brazilian owners(farmers) burned down the wild growth land to plant the soybeans and other goods, like lumber, needed by the Chinese.

We tend to look at this stuff as long term... like years, but the world is moving pretty fast, and it's not always easy to go back. Just ask some small farmers.

They're also different because the President of Brazil is cooking up some lunker fabrications about the cause of the fires, much the same way our own "Conspiracy Theorist-in-Chief" makes up bullcrap every single day.

I admit to a bit of facetiousness as I'm finding it to be very difficult to get people who are concerned about the climate crisis to personally invest time or money in functional solutions.

"I don't have any spare time, and I need to keep my money in safe investments!!"
- "How safe are they if we are on the brink of collapse?"

"It's not my fault, I don't want to change!!!"
- "No worries - changing won't be a choice when it all goes to shiit."

Given a choice, people will usually do the wrong thing. That's why we elect people who are proven problem solvers and leaders of men to represent us in government.

If you want your idea to succeed you need to get some major corporation to steal it from you. Monsanto might be a good one, when every agricultural chemical supplier is selling and recommending biochar applications for every crop and government requires a minimum application for every acre zoned agricultural then some headway will be made towards saving the planet.

Because it's still okay to use plastic bags, that's why. you know what my answer always is? It shouldn't be but yes, we'll save the planet tomorrow. It always gets a laugh and a nod. Even the kids know whats going on.

In a normal world if the Amazon were on fire it would be because of natural droughts and the eventual thunderstorms that come when they end. It would burn itself out and the forest would begin the slow process of renewal. In a hundred years you'd never know it happened.

This time around they'll be replaced with farms. This isn't a new thing. The bio-char created by the forest fire will benefit the farmlands.
