Rightwingers will disagree with that statement. The reason why Righwingers support Russia, is because Russia presents itself as pure white society. Never mind the reality that eastern and southeastern Russian are Asian.

I want to explain where all my questions are coming from; it might sooth some ruffled feathers. I just finished a book called “You’ll Never.Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism,” by Lacey Lamar and her sister Amber Ruffin, currently a writer with the Daily Show.

The book contains stories from their Omaha childhood, school days, and and adult experience - shopping, jobs, etc.

What I learned is thatIhave absolutely witnessed racist events that seemed minor to me, but not to the person targeted. In fact I’m pretty sure my own actions have been unwittingly stupid.

And that’s why I asked about Doug’s choice f words - not because I considered it racist, but becauseI I wante to see f it was one of those phrases that means one thing to some, another to someone else.

From a certain viewpoint calling someone "mixed" is a way of saying they are "less than white"

When you refer to someone as a "person of color" it removes all ambiguity, they are most definitely not white.

White, of course, being the best possible race to be a member of...

Espeically if you're middle-eastern or northern African - you HAVE TO pick "white" on the US Census. Hmm

Along and along we'll make them specify whether they are of genuine European ancestry.

I was indoctrinated into the deep racial divide of the apartheid South. I know and understand racism better than most...and not from the viewpoint of the victims. Are Italians and Greeks white? Then why not Tunisians? Many Middle Easterners are of European descent. Are Arabs specifically non-white? Are some tribes whiter than others? Do they still have "tribes"?

The fact that there are multiple groups who suffer from bigotry doesn’t really address the issue of multicultural people. There is bigotry, and there is racism, but by spreading the definition out to include all ethnic groups you kinda take away the focus…

I recently attempted to enter the Musk Foundation Carbon Reduction X-Prize (I failed to complete the submission by the deadline - it was the most effed up proposal process I have ever seen). One of the sections was focused on environmental justice, which my company and proposal have a great handle on. The community where my shop is happens to be very poor and the vast majority of the residents are "mixed race" Hispanics, commonly referred to as Mexicans (though most of that demographic are not from Mexico, unless you consider the pre-U.S. annexation period of this neck of the woods.

Being a professional grant whore, I pulled up the Census data to validate our community worthiness for benevolent Socialist treatment and was stunned to see that the race breakdown was 85% white with a smattering of blacks and Native Americans. WHAT?

I found a different demographic evaluation of the area and it said this:

White Hispanic: 42%
Non-White Hispanic: 33%

That told me a couple of things: 1) many "mixed race" Hispanics self report as White, I think for obvious reasons; 2) the Census categorizes Hispanics by language and not race.

The fact is, the Hispanic brown people around here are descended primarily from MesoAmerican Indians (Olmec, Maya, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, Mixtec, and Mexica (or Aztec)), who were "conquered" by European Hispanics, whose culture dominated the MesoAmerican cultures. It's just plain weird that they became "Hispanics" because the Spanish language was forced on them. Of course there was some interbreeding between the invaders and the natives, but it didn't create a large class of more privileged "mixed race" folks.

It's also weird that their once more advanced cultures have been starved into becoming a commonly regarded lower class of people.

In any event, I used the second demographic breakdown in the EJ narrative...

Curiously, I have been told recently by two different Native Americans, one a Navajo and one a Chiricahua Apache, that they are fine with “Indian” and prefer it to “Native American”, because that’s what they grew up with (and it’s a shorter word). Frankly, the word “American” is no more native than “Indian”. Their words are Dine' and Nde for their people. To a degree, they (and myself) see me as a child who is coming to understand their cultural way of being aligned with Mother Nature, out of the fog of the northern European domination culture.

What really frustrates both of them is that “we” don’t respect and listen to their better evolved wisdom and cultural experience about how to live well in collaboration with the Earth.
