Interesting idea:

Quote
§2383. Rebellion or insurrection
Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

If Trump is convicted of crimes that were part of the insurrection (not just January 6th), then Judge Cannon could be charged with "giving aid or comfort", and indicted under federal statute 2383. There seems to be overwhelming opinion in the legal community, and her rulings themselves have also stated, that she is giving Donald Trump unprecedented aid. For example, his lawyers have never said in any of their filings that he declassified any documents, (out of fear of perjury, no doubt). Yet Judge Cannon herself brought up this idea in a ruling, based on no evidence or defendant claims. If that isn't "aid or comfort", I don't know what is.

America's democracy crisis will not end anytime soon.

Donald Trump and his acolytes in the Republican-fascist party continue to incite acts of right-wing violence, including terrorism, on a nationwide scale as part of their plan to end American democracy and replace it with authoritarianism and one-party rule.

Federal Judge Aileen Cannon is a party to the attempt to end democracy as well.

Proud Boys memo outlines meticulous planning protocol for ‘street violence’

Quote
Document of 23 pages shows the lengths to which the far-right group goes to prepare for potentially violent encounters and exposes the militaristic structure and language it has adopted.

You guys should have shot them all in the head. We gave you guys guns, and you should have used them.
- Lindsey Grahm to Michael Fanone, a former D.C. Metropolitan Police officer

Fanone, a one-time Trump voter, has become a fierce critic of Republican hypocrisy over the riot and GOP attempts to downplay the violence. He resigned from the police last year and is now a CNN contributor on law enforcement issues.

Democracy survived the attack like A10 Warthogs survive ground to air ordnance.

Sure, it might RTB but it's not like it's ready for another sortie so saying everything's gonna be okay isn't as reassuring as you might think. I wish you were right but I keep seeing an A10 Warthog with a missing engine and half a wing blown off. And half the personnel working the home airbase keep trying to cut power to the runway lights....you know, to "save electricity". wink

I'm not trying to assure you that everything is going to be okay...it's not and it has never been.

But as far as Democracy goes...? I think we're safe for now. Didja see how the wannabe anti-democracy former president was handled?

He was booted from office via democracy and his anti-democratic mob is being handed longer and longer sentences for their crimes as we type these words.

Due entirely to his efforts the Democratic Party is set to perform historically well in the upcoming midterms despite a faltering economy and a presidential approval rate that would normally drag them down and lose both houses of congress for them.

Remember Frank Roosevelt? America loved him so much that he was elected to four terms.
Literally made President For Life with the consent of the American people.

Can you imagine how pissed off Republicans were during that ENTIRE time...?

Right around that time, his ideological opposite had come into power in the Weimar Republic.

Frank's head exploded. Adolph blew his brains out. And the brains behind the socialist USSR, an aging Lenin, passed his legacy on to the strongman Stalin as the people judged a strong-man would be needed for the upcoming storm...

And everything was as okay as things ever are.

Fast forward to today. Germany has done just fine. The US doesn't appear to be in any imminent danger of appointing a dictator, and Russia is fecked...the one nation that pretty much stuck with authoritarian-style leaders.

Everything is not okay. And it's never gonna be. So forgive me for not jumping up and down and pulling my hair at every indication that things are not okay.

How many states had the ability to just overturn an election result that they didn't like in Roosevelt's time, Greger?
Suppose FDR ran and won in 1936, as he did, but fourteen states decided to just invalidate their tallies on a whim?

But thanks for the amusing exercise in comparing the 1930's to the 2020's.
I'm sure that forty years from now AI bots will find it even more amusing right before they go to the polls to vote for us.

The same number that have that ability today...? How many states have overturned elections they didn't like...?

I understand your contempt for history when it doesn't support your argument. But making up a future history that suits your narrative better is what we call fiction. Have you asked any Republicans whether they'd be willing to give up their vote...?

Or are you just creating straw men to fear and loathe.?
